Hello there!

I'm a student at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN, studying to become an English Teacher. I have written and edited stories that have been published by the Bethel Clarion and Royal Report. Three of my sports stories have been awarded honors at the MNA Better Newspaper Contest.

I enjoy finding stories about unique characters, unsung heroes, and competition that brings people together. I also love hammocks, campfires, and talking to anyone who will listen. 

My dream is to step into an educator role that will empower me to positively affect lives, in turn empowering my students to do the same.

‘Good chaos’

ARDEN HILLS — As the Bethel University Royals softball team entered the MIAC Playoffs armed with a 21-game win streak, senior second baseman Izzy Wilhelm sat in the opposing dugout inside Ona Orth Athletic Complex predicting the weekend to be “absolute chaos.”

Benchwarmers

Being a backup is hard, but maybe that’s not a bad thing.

Aside from the blissful moment when your bat glides through the zone and cracks the ball with the juiciest part of the barrel, the best part of hitting a home run is rounding third base and seeing all of us pouring out of the dugout. Jumping up and down and waiting for your cleat to touch home plate. We’ll crowd all around you, shouting and slapping your helmet as if you had just taken down Goliath himself.

Breaking the cycle

After 14 years of losing seasons, the men’s hockey team turns things around.

Cold skates carve long lines in the ice at the Blaine Super Rink. The coaches glide around the rink, setting up the nets on either end and dumping a bucket of pucks at center ice. They toss pucks into the rafters of the arena and try to catch them in the air cleanly with their sticks. Little by little, the team filters out of the locker room and onto the ice.

Tug of War: Heritage Hall takes the championship

Bethel residence halls come together for a night of intense, friendly competition.

The Robertson Center gym thrummed as students filed in the double doors and found their spots in the wooden bleachers. Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” boomed through the speakers.
